Seems like humans are more like cameleons. When they care about the outcome of a new situation they quickly assess what they want in the result and how to best get it. They quickly take their best shot at hitting what they 'think' is the required impression.

Based on that behavior though things that matter to you will ring through and experience and instincts, plus whatever information you have and gather will tell you if the first impression they project is a good read or a smokescreen to get what they want.

Me personally...I have moved around alot and try to be a genuinely decent person. But I do not script a first impression. Other than the normal politeness and formality that goes with first time scenarios. Being yourself is a good creedo for me. People will like you or they won't and they will figure it out fast 'first impressions' or not.

My goal is not to make an 'impression', but to make an authentic and open connection. To genuinely listen and be aware of the other's thoughts and feelings is generally well received. I think anyone who doesn't listen, isn't really aware of or acknowledging the other, or isn't authentic, is unlikely to make a good impression! :)
