Joe, good post. I haven't had an encounter like this in the past so I can't comment on that. However, when you stated "This is the point in time when you start to look at your legacy. What have I done that has permanence? What is my destiny, cause and calling?" ... it made me think of a message at Northpoint. I can't remember what it was specifically but I remember them saying ... when you are gone from this earth, it won't matter how high up the ladder in your job you achieved, the big house or fancy car ... most everyone will want to be remembered for the type of person they were, the influences they made, and the hope that they left a inspirational mark for future generations to follow.

Wonderfully said, JimFrank. Only having the typical sound bite of information about karma and reincarnation, I suspect there is much I could learn and probably should understand. Maybe that's a future learning path.

There was a scene in a popular WW2 D-Day movie where one soldier is spilling out his troubles to another. After the soldier who shared such intimate feelings left, a third soldier asked the second one, "Who was that?" The second soldier replied, "I don't know."

There are special people who walk this world who are much like that second soldier. People open up and share things with them, not knowing who they are, but sensing there is something about them that allows this kind of sharing. I've studied religion most of my life, looking for those things common to all, trying to grow on a spiritual path. On this path, I've met many unique and fascinating individuals. This subject comes up often enough, and I've been told that people who are approachable in this way show an inner light that others sense. It may no be visible with our eyes, but it is to our hearts.

Listening and helping guide others is certainly a gift. One that you have Joe, and I suspect one that Mary Alice has as well. You both allow your inner light to shine. Passing each other in an open and non-threatening place allows that light to shine just a little brighter. The two lights together create quite an experience.

Our beliefs are shaped by our experiences. I do believe in karma and reincarnation, but not in the simple ways they are normally explained. Regardless of belief, it sounds like you certainly experienced one of those rare life events that is a blessing and can be used to inspire others. Thank you for sharing!

May your inner light always shine brightly.
